Duplain, Claude

Quebec, Portneuf, Liberal Party of Canada

Mr. Claude Duplain was elected for the first time in November 2000. His great interest in the rural world and in economic and sustainable development led him to join the Standing Committee on Agriculture and to become a member of the National Rural Caucus. Since January 2004, Mr. Duplain has also sat on the Standing Committee on House Procedures with a view to implementing the process of democratic reform advocated by the new government of Prime Minister Paul Martin.

In 2001, Mr. Duplain was selected by the prime minister to join his Task Force on the Future of Agriculture. In 2003, he worked on the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Women Entrepreneurs and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Mr. Duplain was a member of the Board of Courrier de Portneuf, the Portneuf SADC, and the Saint-Raymond Chamber of Commerce. He also served as president and representative of the Portneuf region on the Quebec CRCD (Regional Council for Cooperation and Development). He subsequently joined the executive council as the representative of the chambers of commerce of Portneuf, Charlevoix, Beauport et Saint-Anne de Beaupré.

The CRCD appointed Mr. Duplain to the board of the CRES (Regional Social Economic Council) to develop regional policy. For a number of years he was also president of the Saint-Raymond industrial park development corporation.
