Since his election to the House of Commons in November 2000, Andy Savoy has been a vocal champion for rural Canadians.
In early 2004, he ran unchallenged for chairman of the national Liberal Caucus and became the first Atlantic MP to head the caucus since Brian Tobin in the late 1980s.
Mr. Savoyís other duties on the Hill include serving on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. He is a former member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development.
He is also a member of the Prime Ministerís Caucus Task Force on Canada-United States Relations and was one of two Atlantic MPs to serve on the Prime Ministerís Caucus Task Force on Urban Issues. He is also a member of the task force on Atlantic Canadaís airports and the Atlantic Caucusís economic development committee.
Mr. Savoy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton.
As a leader in his community, Andy has committed many hours to volunteer positions. He is former chair of the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick and director of the Canadian Environmental Industry Association.
Andy is a native of Tobique-Narrows, N.B. where, together with wife Denyse Marcil, he now raises his young family - daughter Gabrielle and son Cade.
