Carey, Jon Charles

Jon Carey was born and raised in Aylesford, Nova Scotia. After graduating from the local High School, he attended and graduated from NBIT in 1967 where he had trained to teach Industrial Arts. Over the years, Jon has completed a variety of education credit courses from both Acadia University and State University New York at Oswego. He is also a qualified Driver Education Instructor.

With a background in business as well as in education, Jon taught Industrial Arts at West Kings District High School for six years prior to becoming the owner and President of a local Chrysler dealership. He was also the Co-Owner and President of a local CASE (Agriculture and Industrial Equipment) Dealership and for four years, and was the President of and a Partner in a John Deere Dealership in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

While Jon Carey has had a life-long interest in politics, he first decided to seek elected Office in 1999 when he was elected as a Progressive Conservative MLA, representing the Annapolis Valley Constituency of Kings West. During the next four years as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, he served as Chairman of the powerful Human Resources Committee and also of the Fire Safety Legislation Committee. He was also a Member of the Public Accounts Committee, Resource Committee, and Economic Committee. During his four-year term as MLA, Jon demonstrated his ability to get things done. He lobbied effectively for over 32 million Provincial dollars for new school construction and renovations, a multitude of highway improvements, and improvements to healthcare delivery in the Annapolis Valley region.

Jon's involvement in community affairs is exemplary. He was a Member of the Aylesford and District Fire Department and served as Chief of that Department for 21 years. He has coached youth softball, baseball, and hockey. For many years, he taught Sunday School, served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, a Youth Group Leader, and was a Deacon and Trustee of his Church.

Jon resides in Aylesford with his wife, Rhonda and two sons, Bryce and Shawn.
