On December 12, 2003, Geoff Regan was sworn in as the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and became the regional minister for Nova Scotia. He is a member of five cabinet committees, including Priorities and Planning.
Mr. Regan was elected in November of 2000 to his second term as the Member of Parliament for Halifax West. Soon after, in 2001, he was sworn in as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government House Leader and appointed to the Prime Ministerís Caucus Task Force on Urban Issues.
In addition, he served as a member of both the House of Commons Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, and the Justice Sub-Committee on National Security from 2001 to 2003.
Before entering politics, he practiced law and was an active community volunteer. He has worked with minor hockey and ringette, the Metro Food Bank Society, Habitat for Humanity, the MS Society and the Alzheimerís Society.
The proud father of three, Mr. Regan and his wife, Kelly, reside in Bedford and are very active in their community.
A proud Nova Scotian, he has dedicated his life to serving the people of his province. He is well known as an open, accessible and hardworking MP and minister.
