Strachan, Merrill

Newfoundland and Labrador, Labrador, Conservative Party of Canada

Merrill Strachan is the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) candidate in the Newfoundland & Labrador constituency of Labrador.

A resident of Central Labrador since 1980, and a long-time Labrador ‘northerner’, Merrill has been involved in the region’s political activities since 1972 when she moved to Nain and met her future husband Ian.

Merrill is currently the General Manager of the Northside Development Corporation. She brings to her candidacy a well-developed local community and business knowledge.

Her background of the community involvement is extensive, beginning with the organization and founding of the Combined Councils of Northern Labrador in 1972. She has served on the Labrador School Board, the Early Childhood Development Association, the Melville Hospital Advisory Board, and the Labrador East Integrated School Board.

Merril also planned and co-ordinated the Art Project within the central atrium of the Labrador Health Centre, and has been a stalwart worker in developing and maintaining a warm and rewarding relationship with both the Innu and Inuit people of Labrador.

Merril and her husband Ian have four daughters, Ella in Australia, Iona in Ottawa, and Kate and Isla in Goose Bay.
